Melons and maps: research photo diary

melon1Alternative title: I bought a melon for the house, and other research adventures.

Just some UN white tank things, chillaxing in mud near the old barracks.

Increasingly difficult to find friends, interviewees, market, chief’s court, my bike… in Apada village, as the sorghum grows…

This is my normal view, thanks to Joseph Tong driving me around everywhere when I’m feeling lazy.

Mathiang, the Apada chief’s court pet goat.  He leaps onto vacant chairs, vocally contributes to interviews and meetings, and headbutts speakers in the knees when they get loud.

Bringing home the melon.

St George’s Church, Aweil town.
